Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot increases to $441,000,000; One player matched the first 5 numbers

The multi-state Mega Millions lottery grand prize has leaped to a projected $441,000,000 dollars after there was no jackpot winner in Friday's drawing. The cash option stands at $238.8 million up for grab. The numbers from Friday night, April 7th, 2023 were 12-32-49-51-66 and the Mega Ball was 21, Megaplier was 2. There was no jackpot winning ticket sold in the past 993 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.
Even though there was no jackpot winner Friday evening, some people still walked away with big money. There was a sole second prize winner from Friday night's drawing, matching the first 5 lotto numbers except the Mega Ball number. The one lucky ticket(s) bought in PA, each won one million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Also, 13 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional prizes won Friday evening included 441 tickets that matched 4 white numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 1153 tickets that matched 3 white numbers in addition to the Mega Ball and won $200.
With nine different prize levels, there were 1,759,262 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Friday, April 7th, 2023 drawing.
Mega Millions is played in 43 states and D.C. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to buy the Megaplier, which multiplies the prizes 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot starts at $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners can choose one time lump sum cash payout option instead.
As opposed to other Mega Millions participants, all the 9 prize levels of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a set value. This leads to different amounts of prize for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other forty three jurisdictons. For example, the second Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
