Mega Millions jackpot breaks to $86 million; 2 players matched the first five numbers

The Mega Millions jackpot is on the move again. The grand prize for the Tuesday, October 20th, 2020 drawing jumps to $86 million with the lump-sum cash payout of an estimated $67.3 million. The numbers from Friday night, October 16th, 2020 were 27, 32, 50, 52, 57 and the Mega Ball was 12, Megaplier was 5. The Mega Millions grand prize has been rolling over for 730 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.A single lucky player from Maryland won the $189 million jackpot in Tuesday, October 1st, 2013 drawing.
Though the jackpot was not hit Friday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were 2 2nd prize winning tickets from Friday night's Mega Millions drawing, matching all 5 white ball numbers except the Mega Ball number. The 2 second prize winning ticket(s) sold in won $1,000,000 cash each.
Also, 5 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional prizes won Friday night included 219 tickets that matched 4 lotto numbers and won $500. There were 573 tickets that correctly matched three white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With nine different prize tiers, there were a total of 1,006,820 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Friday, October 16th, 2020 drawing.
Mega Millions game can be played in 43 states and D.C. Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Mega Millions game uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) matrix from which winning numbers are chosen. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to buy the Megaplier option, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times but not jackpot. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot is $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners can choose one-time lump-sum cash payout instead.
Contrary to other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize levels of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, as opposed to non-jackpot prize having a set value. This causes different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other jurisdictons. For instance, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
