Massive Mega Millions jackpot up for grabs Tuesday night

The Mega Millions jackpot has jumped up to an estimated $377,000,000 (lump-sum cash payout $$175.4 million) for the next drawing in the multistate lottery game Tuesday night. The grand prize amount has been rolled over because nobody matched all six numbers to take the $355,000,000 grand prize Friday night. The winning numbers from Friday, December 1st, 2023 drawing were 12, 47, 49, 52, 65 and the Mega Ball was 12, Megaplier was 4. Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot in the past sixteen draws since Tuesday, October 10th, 2023.The last jackpot was won by one lucky ticket sold in TX, matched all six numbers for a $360 million top prize.
Although the jackpot was not hit Friday evening, some players still walked away with huge prizes. There were 3 second prize winners from Friday night's drawing, matching all 5 numbers except the Mega Ball number. The 3 lucky ticket(s) purchased in MA,NY,TX, each won one million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Other prizes won Friday evening included 11 tickets that matched 4 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Additional winners Friday evening included 259 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 781 tickets that matched 3 white numbers in addition to the Mega Ball and won $200.
With nine prize tiers, there were a total of 1,338,072 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Friday, December 1st, 2023 drawing.
Mega Millions is played in 43 states and Washington DC. Roughly 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back to the players through prizes. Roughly 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. About 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions lottery uses a 5/70+1/25 system from which winning numbers are chosen. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot starts at 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can select one-time lump sum cash payout instead.
In contrast to other Mega Millions participants, all the 9 prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This causes different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other lotteries. Such as, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
