With no winner in the last drawing, the Mega Millions grand prize is going to be worth $44,000,000 (cash option $$19.5 million) the next time the multistate lottery is drawn on Tuesday. The amount carried over because no one hit all 5 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball number to win the $28,000,000 jackpot Friday night. The winning numbers from Friday night, January 24th, 2025 were 08-12-43-52-62 and the Mega Ball was 18, Megaplier was 2.
While the grand prize was not awarded Friday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were a total of 7 3rd prize winning tickets. These included 7 tickets that matched 4 white numbers in addition to the Mega Ball and won $10,000.
Additional prizes won Friday night included 141 tickets that matched four lotto numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 431 tickets that matched 3 white numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $200.
With 9 prize tiers, there were 717,470 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Friday, January 24th, 2025 drawing.
Mega Millions is played in 43 states and D.C. Roughly 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back for the players through prizes. About 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. Around 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday at 7:59 PM Pacific Time. Mega Millions uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) system from which winning numbers are chosen. The overall chances of winning any prizes is about 1 to 14. The chances of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot is $40,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners can select one lump sum cash payout option instead.
As opposed to other Mega Millions participants, all the 9 prize levels of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This results in different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other 43 jurisdictons. For instance, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
