Mega Millions jackpot rolls up to $468 million; 1 player won the second prize

The lottery official announced that the Friday, May 14th, 2021, Mega Millions drawing resulted in a roll-over, creating an $468 million jackpot for the next drawing Tuesday. The lump-sum cash payout will be a projected $316.2 million up for grab. The winning numbers from Friday night, May 14th, 2021 were 03, 18, 41, 44, 68 with Mega Ball 03 and Megaplier 2.
While there was no grand prize winner Friday evening, Mega Millions had some huge winners. There was a sole lucky winner matched all 5 lotto numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the 2nd prize. The 1 lucky ticket(s) sold in , each won $1,000,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
In addition, 23 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. In addition, 659 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. There were 1899 tickets that correctly matched 3 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and also won $200.

Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. Mega Millions drawings are held 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 PM Pacific Time. Mega Millions lottery uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) system to randomly pick winning numbers. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to buy the Megaplier option, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize is 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can choose one time lump sum cash payout instead.
As opposed to other Mega Millions states, all the 9 prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, rather than non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This causes different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other 43 Mega Millions states. For instance, the second Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery.
