No jackpot winning ticket sold. Mega Millions jackpot leaps to $31,000,000

The Mega Millions multi-state lottery jackpot built to $31,000,000 (cash option $$15.6 million) Tuesday night when there were no jackpot winning tickets in the $20,000,000 drawing, lottery officials said. The numbers from Friday, September 13th, 2024 drawing were 21, 55, 56, 57, 66 with Mega Ball 01 and Megaplier x3.
Although the grand prize was not awarded Friday evening, some players still walked away with large winnings. There were a total of 6 3rd prize lucky winners. These included 6 tickets that matched 4 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000.
Other prizes won Friday evening included 194 tickets that matched four white numbers and won $500. There were 485 tickets that correctly matched 3 white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With 9 prize levels, there were a total of 854,422 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Friday, September 13th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. Mega Millions lottery uses a 5/70+1/25 matrix to randomly pick winning numbers. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the prizes 2 to 5 times except jackpot. The overall chances of winning is about 1 to 14. The chances of winning Mega Millions grand prize are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize is 40 million dollar. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners can choose one-time lump-sum cash payout instead.
Unlike other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed amount. This causes different amounts of prize for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other 43 states. One example is, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
